Mallory Franklin (GBR) pleased the crowd in Lee Valley by winning the first Gold Medal for Great Britain in C1 Women after a fantastic final run.
She crushed her final run with no penalties and cruised to a resounding victory in this first World Cup of the 2014 season. And in front of her home crowd! A surprise silver for her teammate Eilidh Gibson, who had the second fastest run of the final and despite 4 seconds penalty, hung on for 2nd. China’s Qianqian Teng also put in a strong clean final run, edging out Australia’s Jessica Fox by a mere .07 seconds.
Great Britain, China, Australia and Czech Republic all had 2 canoeists in the C1W final.
In the Team competition – once again Great Britain takes Gold, but just barely over China, by 1.65 seconds. China has stormed into this World Cup series and we look to see more podium finishes from them as the season moves on.
Exciting racing in Lee Valley!
