2015 was a breakout year for long-time athlete Staniliya Stamenova. The 3 times European Champion has been a bridesmaid to Canada’s indomitable Laurence Vincent Lapointe at the World Championships. In 2015 Stamenova dominated the Women’s C1 200 meter event from start to finish to win her first world title and the only world title in any Bulgarian sport.
Her Coach is the legendary canoeist Nikolay Bukhalov, the only Bulgarian athlete with two gold medals in one Olympics. Buhalov can now boast he is a World Champion as an athlete AND a coach.
With Tokyo2020 on the horizon, perhaps Mr. Bukhalov can boast that he is an Olympic Champion athlete AND coach of an Olympic gold medalist.
